Carrymax Lifts designs, manufactures, installs and services lifts for homes, hospitals, hotels, showrooms and factories. This page explains what a lift manufacturing company does, how lifts are made, how to tell a real manufacturer from an assembler, and what to ask before you place an order with any lift making company in India.
What a Lift Manufacturing Company Does
A lift manufacturing company designs and builds the lift itself, from the structure of the cabin to the controller that decides when it moves. Many businesses sell lifts, but fewer actually make the parts. The difference shows up when you need a custom size, a replacement part or a fix to a design problem.
A manufacturer typically takes responsibility for four things:
- Design: the layout, load calculations and safety design for your shaft
- Fabrication: the cabin, car frame, doors, brackets and other structural parts
- Assembly and testing: bringing the components together and testing them before dispatch
- Support: spare parts, technical advice and service after the lift is installed
Ask any lift manufacturing company in India which of these it carries out in its own facility and which it buys in.
The Main Parts of a Lift
Knowing the parts helps you ask better questions. A traction lift is made of these main groups.
Machine and drive
The machine moves the cabin and counterweight. It can be geared or gearless. A geared machine suits low and mid-rise buildings where speed requirements are moderate. A gearless lift machine gives a smoother, quieter ride and needs less maintenance over time. Variable Frequency Drive control manages power to the machine and the door drives for smooth starts and stops.
Controller
The controller is the brain of the lift. It reads the call buttons, decides which floor to serve and monitors the safety circuits. Where several lifts serve one building, an integrated serial or parallel controller coordinates them so passengers wait less.
Cabin and car frame
The cabin is what passengers see and touch, while the car frame carries its load. Cabin size, colour, materials and door type can be customised to the building, which is where a true manufacturer has an advantage over a company that assembles standard parts.
Doors
Landing doors and cabin doors are among the most used parts of a lift and cause a large share of faults. Door sensors prevent the doors from closing on a passenger.
Guide rails, ropes and safety gear
Guide rails keep the cabin travelling straight. Ropes or belts carry its weight. Safety gear, emergency brakes and the overload device are there for the rare event that something goes wrong. These parts decide whether a lift is safe, which is why their make and testing matter.
How a Lift Is Manufactured
Each manufacturer has its own process, but the main stages are common to most.
- Survey and design: the shaft is measured and the lift is designed to fit it
- Fabrication: structural parts such as the car frame, cabin panels and brackets are cut, formed and finished
- Assembly: the machine, controller, doors and cabin are brought together
- Testing: safety devices, doors and controller functions are checked before dispatch
- Dispatch and installation: components are delivered and erected in the shaft, then tested and commissioned on site
Our lifts are manufactured at our facility in IMT, Faridabad, to the specification agreed after the site survey. Our about us page tells the story of how we moved from installing other makers' lifts to building our own.
Manufacturer or Assembler: How to Tell the Difference
Some companies fabricate and assemble most of the lift themselves. Others import or buy complete components and put them together. Both are legitimate, but they offer different things.
| Question | A manufacturer usually | An assembler usually |
|---|---|---|
| Cabin and car frame | Fabricates in its own facility | Buys standard items |
| Custom sizes | Adapts the design to the shaft | Fits the shaft to available parts |
| Spare parts | Controls supply of its own parts | Depends on its suppliers |
| Design changes | Can change the design itself | Relies on the component maker |
| Responsibility | One company answers for the lift | Responsibility is shared |
The simplest test is to visit. A genuine lift making company will show you its facility or an experience centre, and explain what it builds there.
Elevator Manufacturing Companies in India: What to Check
When you compare elevator manufacturing companies in India, ask each one the same questions.
- Which parts do you make yourselves, and which do you buy in?
- What is the make of the machine, controller and door operator?
- Are the lifts built and tested to Indian standards such as IS 14665?
- Can you customise the cabin and doors to my shaft?
- Will spare parts be available for the next fifteen years?
- Who installs and services the lift, and from where?
- Can I see a lift you made, installed and maintained?
The answers tell you more than a brochure. A manufacturer confident in its product will show its facility and give clear answers.
Types of Lifts a Manufacturer Should Offer
A broad range shows that a company can design for different buildings.
- Passenger lifts that carry 4 to 20 persons (272 to 1360 kg) at speeds up to 1 m/s
- Home and villa lifts, including machine room less and gearless models
- Hospital and stretcher lifts with a deeper cabin and wider doors
- Capsule lifts that carry 8 to 20 persons at 0.5 to 1.5 m/s in glass or round shapes
- Freight and goods lifts for heavy duty
- Car lifts for showrooms, service centres and residential basements
For factories and warehouses, heavy-duty lifts are a separate specialty. Our page on industrial lift manufacturers explains what to look for when the lift will work hard every day.
Safety and Standards in Lift Manufacturing
Safety is built in at the design stage, not added later. Our lifts carry door sensors, emergency brakes, overload protection and alarm systems as standard safety features. We build to the relevant Indian standards, including IS 14665 for lifts. When you evaluate any manufacturer, ask for the safety features of the standard model and what is optional, since a low price sometimes means that safety items were left out.
Quality in manufacturing also shows in small details: how evenly the cabin panels are finished, how cleanly the door tracks run, and how neatly the wiring is laid out. These details are hard to judge from a quotation, which is another reason to see a finished lift before you decide.
After the Sale: Installation, Service and Spare Parts
A manufacturer's responsibility continues after delivery. Installation, testing and commissioning should be part of the plan, and a lift AMC should spell out its scope in writing. A comprehensive contract covers parts and labour. A non-comprehensive contract covers labour only, and parts are billed separately. Neither is wrong, but you should know which one you are signing. We recommend servicing a lift at least once a year, and lifts with heavy daily use usually need more frequent visits.

Why Choose Carrymax Lifts as Your Lift Manufacturer
We began as an erection and commissioning contractor for established elevator brands, so we understand what installers need from a lift and what causes problems in the field. We then built our own manufacturing facility in IMT, Faridabad, with a head office and experience centre there and branch offices in Karnal and Mohali. Because we make the lift, one team answers for the cabin, machine and controller, and we can customise the design to your building. To start, send us your building type, number of floors and expected use, and we will arrange a free site survey.
